Rashard Leverett

Rashard Leverett grew up in the Bronx with his two older sisters and single mother. He has always remained active by creatively making people laugh, playing football and keeping people entertained with his acting abilities. Attending P.S. 95 middle school in the Bronx, Rashard was first noticed in the Riverdale Press newspaper in the third grade for the role he played as Ichabod Crane in “The Legend of Sleepy Hallow”. He later went on to perform in other school plays such as “Grease” and “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”. Rashard’s high school years were rough as he was challenged with solidifying his identity and trying to figure out who he was. Influenced by other troubled students, Rashard found himself transferring to different high schools. Consequently, he graduated a year later than expected, from Thurgood Marshall Academy high school in Harlem, N.Y. During his last year of high school, he landed a job with the nonprofit organization, the Harlem Children’s Zone. After graduation, Rashard enrolled in Morgan State University where he studied theater. During his second year, Rashard wanted to take acting to the next level. He remembered that he could make people laugh and he started to look into performing comedy. After consistently looking for work he landed an audition for season two of MTV’s hit show “Yo Momma”. Becoming a finalist for the show, Rashard was motivated to pursue film.  As he began to do freelance videography and photography, he became well known in the community for filming music videos, documentaries and helping the youth become more knowledgeable with cameras and editing. During this time, he landed a gig filming a notable project with Dr. Oz and Jordin Sparks.  The project promoted healthy eating and exercise habits to students. Most recently, Rashard has been working on building his own film company. To date, he has written and directed two films that promote social awareness, which is relevant to his aforementioned career goal. He is currently working for the Harlem Children’s Zone where he is helping high school students tap into their inner artistic talents. Rashard’s plan is to secure a film company that will use its films to raise awareness on World Wide issues. His goal is to grasp the attention of the youth through visual art in order to help create a culture that will make a positive change in the world.
